Nobody comes to Jacksonville Beach, Florida for winter activities, do they? Well, they do if they’re looking for something a little different than the usual sunning, surfing, and swimming. And they’ll find tons of cool things to do at WinterFEST at Adventure Landing, a year-round theme park that’s known more for its water slides, mini-golf, roller coaster, laser tag, go-karts, batting cages, wave pool, and arcade games. Continuing through January 13, 2013, WinterFEST is making its second appearance and it looks like it’s going to be an annual thing. Had a great turnout last year as there really is a ton of fun wintery things to do, which is grand for folks who live in Florida and other warmer climates. There’s an outdoor ice skating rink where you can strap on your skates and strut your stuff to an array of inspiring songs. Plus, there are a plenty of ice skating shows featuring top Jacksonville performers. Those thrill-seekers among you will find the Alpine Racer Ice Slide most appealing. It’s a 130-foot-long ice slide and the ride down is nothing short of spectacular. Make sure your little ones are at least 42-inches tall otherwise they’ll be relegated to spectator status.

Sadly, at this date in time, Santa Claus has taken off for the North Pole, so you won’t be able to have your picture taken with him or visit his workshop or drop your Christmas wish-list in his mailbox. But there is still a whole bunch of holiday action to be had. On select Saturdays and Sundays during WinterFEST you’ll be able to hear classic Christmas songs courtesy of a talented collection of carolers. Food is a big part of this event as well. Now, while chestnuts are usually roasting on an open fire at this time of year, you’ll be treated to a treat of a different kind. S’mores galore will be the sweet of choice for roasting. Of course, WinterFEST wouldn’t be a true winter festival if there wasn’t any snow. Have no fear, there’s lots of snow here. Every hour starting at 5:00 p.m., there will be an honest to goodness snowflake shower. Best of all, you can dance underneath this snowfall. There are also lights aplenty. Guess the correct amount and you could win a ski vacation for four at Cataloochee Ski Area in North Carolina. Get the lowdown on this upbeat family-friendly event at
