It’s hard to believe you don’t have to get tickets in advance for the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular. Not only that but it’s only $10 at the door to get in. $10? Who does that? Apparently no one except this Christian music-based concert. They’re dedicated to making exceptionally entertaining shows affordable for everyone from families to individuals to all types of groups. And Winter Jam is making its way to Jacksonville, Florida on Friday, January 11, 2013 after getting things started in Charleston, West Virginia one week earlier as part of a 44-city tour. It was founded in 1995 by NewSong, a GRAMMY-nominated group who is also the concert’s host. The headliner for the 2013 concert is TobyMac. This guy is no flash in the pan. (For those of you under the age of 30 that means someone who has one hit song and then is never heard from again.) He’s not only won five GRAMMY Awards but his albums have gone platinum multiple times. And his most recent solo album, “Eye On It,” has made its way onto the Billboard Top 200 Chart in the number one spot, the first time in 15 years a Christian music act has done that.
So TobyMac is the main event at Winter Jam 2013. But he’s not the only event. Far from it. There are a slew of other terrific performers on the bill. They include Jamie Grace, Sidewalk Prophets, Matthew West, Royal Tailor, and RED. But wait, there’s more. Jason Castro, the Capital Kings, and OBB will grace the stage with their unique sounds during the Youth Music Vault Pre-Jam Party. National speaker Nick Hall will be on hand with an uplifting message before the festivities begin. Oh, and of course, NewSong will be bringing their own magical musical message to their adoring fans. This venerable group, which has recorded 17 albums, has 20 number one Christian radio singles and a GRAMMY nomination under their collective belts. Proud Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductees, NewSong is known for such popular hits as “The Christmas Shoes” and “Arise, My God.” Their most recent album, “One True God,” was at the top of Billboard’s Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart in 2011. Suffice it to say, this concert at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena will be pretty darn good. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00.
